Make a meme right here in your browser

Pick a blank layout or add your own picture, type your caption, drag it where it reads best, then save a PNG. Your picture never leaves this device.

Drag text on the preview to move it. With the preview focused, arrow keys nudge the selected text (hold Shift for bigger steps). You can also drop or paste a picture here.

1 Start with a layout
2 Picture and background

Whole image

3 Text
4 Save it

No watermark. JPG files are smaller, which helps with big photos.

How it works

  1. Choose a starting point

Seven blank layouts we drew ourselves, from the classic top-and-bottom caption to a four-panel grid. Or add your own photo, screenshot or drawing.

  2. Write short, then drag

Captions wrap on their own. Drag them off faces and busy spots, and turn the outline up when the background is light.

  3. Save or copy

Download a PNG or a smaller JPG, or copy the image and paste it straight into a post. Everything happens on your device.

Questions

Is the Memetastic meme maker free?

Yes. There is no account, no watermark and no paid tier. Open the page, make your meme, save the PNG.

Does my picture get uploaded anywhere?

No. The picture you choose is read by your own browser and drawn onto a canvas on your device. Nothing is sent to our server, and closing the tab clears it.

Where are the famous meme templates?

We don't host them. Most well-known meme images are photos or film stills that belong to someone else, so the maker ships only blank layouts we made ourselves. Use your own photos or drawings and you know exactly what you have the rights to.

What size should a meme be for X?

The landscape preset is 1600 by 900 pixels, which shows uncropped in the timeline on most screens. Square is 1080 by 1080 and portrait is 1080 by 1350. If a photo meme comes out heavy as a PNG, save it as a JPG instead; it will be much smaller.

Why won't the Copy button work?

Copying an image to the clipboard needs a recent browser and a secure page. Some browsers, mostly older ones and some on phones, don't allow it. Use Download PNG instead; the file is the same.

Memetastic is an independent site and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to X Corp. "X" is used only to describe image sizes for posts on that platform.
